So, after Heidi's offer of her larger-than-mine George Foreman grill (and Paula's offer to make margaritas), I think I want to have a cookout July 4 weekend. What day is best? I was thinking Sunday and we could all go somewhere to watch fireworks afterward. Or maybe Saturday is better, since we could hang out in my apartment for longer (and risk our lives to climb up to the roof). What do y'all think?

I happen to have the 5th off from work. If this is the case with the other guests, Sunday could be a late nighter.

Or we can start Friday and finish Monday evening!

If the fireworks are visible from your roof, the 4th would be excellent, although I was thinking of renting a boat that evening and watching the fireworks from the harbor. Any day that weekend is fine for me, though.

That sounds like a good idea, although water....loud explosions...might send me into another flashback.

I tossed the idea around yesterday with a couple of the Club members. Apparently, lots of folks do this, but that's actually a problem because the harbor is full of traffic and safe anchorages are hard to find. Still, I'm going to check into it. After all, there's nothing quite so American as drinking beer on a boat in a crowded harbor, with an inexperienced crew. Safety be damned - it's the 4th of July!

I wouldn't mention it on your journal if you weren't invited :)

Depending on the size of the boat (and assuming I can even get one), there'll probably be room for 8-10 people.

Yay! That sounds like fun.

I have been on yachts before--when we lived in Fort Lauderdale my grandmother had one--but I was a kid when we moved. OTOH, I can sing and dance on a boat and keep my balance. Does that help?

I don't think we can see the fireworks from the roof--I was looking around yesterday and I think there's too much foliage.

I can't promise anything, because that will be an extremely busy weekend for boat chartering places, but I'm looking into it. I should've booked months ago, but I doubt most places would have considered me qualified to charter. The Bermuda trip should take care of that, of course.

I wouldn't recommend dancing on a 36-foot boat. Singing, perhaps :)

I have the XL George Foreman grill that will cook "up to 4 extra-large burgers, 4 plump chicken breasts, and 2 juicy steaks in minutes", which can certainly make the trek to your apartment in a backpack with all accessories. As I recall, someone else (maybe [livejournal.com profile] jayspec462?) also offered his grill... And I should mention that veggies also cook well in that incredible invention (that I wish I had come up with... think of the money coming in from sales alone)...

As for the day, it doesn't matter to me. I am around, and I have Monday off. :)
