*Very glad LaChanze won. I just love her.
*3PO had a very WEIRD number but strangely, I want to see it now. Now that it's closing! I also want to see The Color Purple and Sweeny.
*What is UP with presenters who can't be bothered to look at their text before showing up andrunning off with their gift bag embarrassing themselves stumbling over their tele-prompter reading not just once but several times? I found that very unprofessional. Paul Rudd and the woman with whom he presented had the easiest gig in the world and they muffed it.
*I wish Megan had won but I'm thrilled she was even nominated. So amazing to see local talent make good like that. I do wish the featured number from Pajama Game had featured her a bit more, since it WAS her song!
*I wish they'd shown more from the "Memorable moments"--historic wins would've been cool to see.
*It took them SIXTY YEARS to replace Patricia Neal's Tony???
*The iconic Hal Prince characters "live montage" was HILARIOUS. They looked like a poster for Forbidden Broadway.
*I really want to see History Boys, although if felt that way before the Tonys.
*Watching that guy win Best Actor for History Boys, I was wondering how many 300-lb. women would ever win. He was morbidly obese.

Date: 2006-06-12 03:05 pm (UTC)My reaction watching the 3PO song was "Aww! Alan Cummings! ... what the hell is that Cindi Lauper?"
Somehow I'd completely missed that she was in the production.
I actually want to see Sweeney _less_ after seeing the Tonys. NO ONE was enunciating clearly, and with that cast that's a huge disappointment. On the other hand, all my friends have loved it and last wednesday they had 50% off seats at TKTS so... it may still happen.

Date: 2006-06-12 03:36 pm (UTC)I went to the Jersey Boys after party last night and ended up getting drunk with Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard, and Des McAnuff's publicist. So much fun.
Well...
Date: 2006-06-12 03:51 pm (UTC)And Jersey Boys. I had virtually no interest in seeing it. Until last night when dudes blew the roof off. I was impressed. They did their job, piqued interest and sold tickets for the summer months.
Threepenney Opera in general, was weird. It really was. But honestly, when I watched Cyndi Lauper in the show, I thought, why the hell hadn't they put her in something before? Her solo was heart-breaking. The duet didn't sound as good as I remember.
Yeah, I was a little terrified of the mannequins playing Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett. It was like Baby Jane and... someone else really scary.
I'll save the rest for my own post.

Date: 2006-06-12 04:15 pm (UTC)i LOVED when she screwed up phylicia rashad's name. and i also loved the threepenny thing. i went by the theater when it was still in previews to see about ushering, and the guy told me "no more slots...but you can still usher for pajama game!" um, that's reaaaaallly not the same thing. :)

Date: 2006-06-12 08:37 pm (UTC)you are totally right about that, when i said "ok, ok. i could make a billion more protests here, but i'll reel it in! :)" i was basically going to whine about how the late 70's made different body types more acceptable, and then probably something that could sound bad about how it's more societally acceptable for african-american women to be large. (as opposed to asian or white women.)
and then, i really did wonder how it would come up in conversation.
i didn't mean to be construed as rude and sarcastic, i apologize.
