[shallow]There are some good-lookin' men on the Yankees. Andy Pettite? That intense stare, that nod, that efficient delivery? Hello! And Rivera is just classically beautiful--like, he could be a statue, his face is so chiseled. That Teixeira guy is yummy too, with that sensual mouth. Call me![/shallow]

Oh yeah--after apple-picking and dropping off various passengers and the car, I hung out at the Piper's Kilt to watch the game, exhausted though I was. Man, does the food there suck, but I nursed a Guinness and had a great time. Everyone was in a good mood. It's kind of weird, though, there was a girl there, obviously a huge Yankees fan from her regalia, who made a couple of cracks at people in the stands. Example: the camera cut to a shot of a young woman holding out a banner, saying something like "World Series 2009: Yankees vs. Phillis." People in the bar clapped and this girl sniped "get a new haircut." Later when they cut to a shot of Kate Hudson clapping, the girl simpered "Oooh, I'm a Yankees fan!" She only did this toward women in the stands. I wanted to say--you don't need to be threatened by the sight of other female fans. (And Kate Hudson is DATING A-Rod--I would hope she'd be there!) You're not the only one who loves sports--you're not unique in any way, there are a lot of us out there. Sniping at other women--and only at them--just makes you look insecure. Just chill and have a great time cheering on the team.

Oh, and I didn't notice this on the TV, but apparently for the last inning, the crowd at Yankee Stadium stood for the whole thing, just watching Rivera. That is awesome. What a tribute! This from the Washington Post:

The crowd stood for the whole thing, as if in homage to the master at work. It was a 1-2-3 ninth, the stadium exploding, Sinatra's voice telling everyone to start spreading the news, the great closer meeting his catcher halfway to home plate for a long, familiar hug.

That's beautiful writing--and on deadline too! I'm not used to reading such good writing in the sports section.

The standing ovation for him tends to happen most games, especially in key situations. Perks to being the #1 closer in MLB. It's a fun thing to be in on when actually at the games.
Yeah, Kate Hudson goes to a lot of the games when she has time, sometimes the fam goes with her. And man does Kurt Russell look old.

I only saw the quick shot of Hudson, didn'tsee Kurt Rusell. But yeah, he has not aged well.

Being at the games is fun. I've been to one Yankees game, and a bunch of Rangers and Knicks games, plus some games back in DC (the Bullets/Wizards, the Caps, the Nats), and of course the Open every year. There is nothing like being at a real game--I'm not really a huge supported of professional sports because I think the owners are out to gouge fans every way they can, but the game itself, and the community spirit that goes with it, is great.

Oh they are out to get us, which is we we sit in the cheap seats for $25 and enjoy the game for what it is, then suck it up and buy the $10 beers and $5 hotdogs.
I, personally, enjoy being at Baseball and Football games, not so much the basketball and hockey.

I've never been to a football game (that is, a pro one), I'm dying to! I would absolutely kill to see a Redskins game, even this year! But I would settle for the Giants ;)

Hockey is more fun than basketball--maybe I just loathe the Knicks management in particular but it feels so sleazily commercial. Isaiah Thomas just spoiled it for me. But I always enjoy watching the Knicks dancers do their thing--I'm like "go, girl, hit that split!"

I will say this about baseball, there *are* inexpensive alternatives, you don't have to spend a lot. There are no cheap seats in football.

I have been to many Jets games. And now they have the train from Hoboken going directly there, so hey, convenient and no traffic. Plus half the fun is tailgating before the game.

Also, the New York Liberty has very inexpensive tickets.

I used to be a big Islanders fan growing up but I got turned off to North American hockey because of all the fighting and rough play. The way they play it in Europe is beautiful.

Try going to some minor league games. Cheap tickets, hot young players and that community spirit.
