Can someone please explain what is the point of LJ's much-vaunted autosave function?

Because if it updates as soon as you change the text in any way, and you accidentally erase it--WHAT"S THE POINT? You haven't saved anything.

Goddamn LJ. I just finished typing a two hour entry. That wasn't saved. Thanks, guys.

A two hour entry?
Will there be an audiobook available? :-P

I know this doesn't help you now, but copying the contents of your window to Notepad or Word before you submit a long entry would preserve the contents for later pasting, in the event your original submission gets lost.

I usually do, or I'll save to "Eyes Only" and then go back in and edit. But seriously, WTF is the point of autosaving a mistake? Why even call it that? Of course I remember the 5 characters I just typed--why even bother to save that often? Save the past 5 paragraphs I spent an hour on. It's a poorly thought-out function that makes you think "maybe I can get that back" when you can't.
