I'm reading ATC right now and someone posted this:

Funny story--when I did Brigadoon in HS, Tommy jumped a few pages of dialogue in the Lundie scene, so the audience never heard what happens if anyone leaves. So during intermission we set up a mike backstage, the director scribbled down some dialogue, and while we were chasing Harry, the audience heard "Mr. Lundie! why is everyone chasing Harry Beaton?" "OH dinna you know laddie--if anyone leaves Brigadoon the town will disappear forever!")

Oh SHIT, that is funny. I just have this image of everyone running around, beating the bushes looking for Harry Beaton and then this random expositional dialogue is heard, like the voice of God. I'm literally crying right now, I find this so funny. Man, I love stage screw-ups.

Best one that ever happened in the theatre where I worked is when they did Little Women and did Act II's dialogue in Act I by mistake. Only problem, there was some line about Beth's death so they prematurely killed Beth. The SM hit the lights and they had a premature intermission wherein they wrote expositional dialogue which they recited at the beginning of Act II to explain her death.

My favorite is one that happened in high school:

In "Once Upon a Mattress", when Fred and Dauntless are getting all lovey-dovey and he reads her the first chapter of some history book, they're supposed to be interrupted by a third character's entrance. She missed her entrance (because she was doing a costume change in the wrong place), so Dauntless vamped for time by making up the text for the next chapter of the history book. And the next, and so on. He had finished Chapter 5 ("The Death of the Sacred Goat") and was partway through Chapter 6 ("The Feast of the Sacred Goat") when she finally made her belated entrance. At least one audience member remarked after the show that she really wanted to know how the Feast of the Sacred Goat ended.
