Nov. 21st, 2006 12:32 amChris came over tonight and hung out while I baked a pecan pie for Thanksgiving. We were watching the news and the whole Michael Richards story was being discussed. CNN had obtained camera phone video of the incident--man, it is just...ugly. It's really ugly. The worst part isn't even the N-bomb, which he just throws out so many times. It's when he says "50 years ago..."--when he makes the reference to something that should never ever be remembered fondly or reminisced about...as in, there are some things worse than the N-word.
Like--where did this come from? We all saw the Mel Gibson meltdown a mile away. But this? Not that I've been following Michael Richard's career all that closely, but that kind of viciousness out of nowhere? I just don't understand.
I'm so sorry those people at the Laugh Factory had to sit through that. Nobody should have to hear that kind of filth flung at them.
His apology (on Letterman) seems very insincere, I'm sorry to say. It just seems mechanical.
