I love it when I get a chance to use my education in my job. I just chatted en francais with an assistant in Paris.

I wish I had more opportunities to practice my French. Does anyone know if there are any Time-Warner channels in the city that air in French?

I've been meaning to look this up, but my dad told me there's a language club in NY that meets once a month for dinner, and there are tables for various languages. I have wanted to go to practice my German. I'll let you know if I get my crap together and ever find out any details about it...

Oh wow--that sounds like such a great idea. I would love to do that! I did that in college sometimes. What fun!

Okay, so as not to add to the thread, I didn't want to post this to the thread. I would have responded to Sami privately, too, but of course Sami has no journal, she just dropped in to "help." And I don't intend to communicate with you again. I'm glad both the kitty and the Dunc will be re-homed. That's the most important thing.

But you? And Sami? And the various anonymous posters? Just so you know, none of you come across as "nice," or "peacemakers" to anyone who can parse. You come across as people who like to be right, who like to be seen as the wisest minds around. Who like to clap their hands and have everyone come to order. There was nothing wrong with the simple, unqualified loyalty to a friend (or a cat) that was being displayed. No one needed the sanctimonious refereeing or calls for everyone to realize what a mooch Duncan is. I said about five times that I was aware that I didn't have all the info, that I was speaking about the evidence provided, and my comments started out pretty tame and respectful. I did only care about the well being of the cat and the boy, and wanted to put in a good word for both. But I was entitled to an opinion. And I was tired of being told I wasn't because I didn't really "know" Duncan or the cat. I've read Duncan's journal for years because I think he's smart and I (usually) like the window into his particular world. Or maybe I was supposed to have been asking for the cat's character references before I opined that it shouldn't be dropped at a kill shelter?

As I said, I would have responded to Anonymous and Sami privately, had that been possible. (It is generally considered very bad form to comment on a journal when you don't have a journal yourself.)

I'm not enough of a hypocrite to wish you the best, but cheers to your kitties.

Look for a French language Meetup. The German one that Holly and I went to was a blast (we haven't found time to go again, but will at some point!) and the sailing one I belong to has been great, too.
