My uncle Chip is doing well...
Mar. 10th, 2006 11:37 pmper my daddy:
He was originally supposed to have triple bypass but it was uppped to a quintuple bypass deal after a looksee. He also had a blockage in his carotid (95%) which was taken care of too. He is recovering very nicely in ICU and will be awake around midnight...
Mother of SHIT. A quintuple bypass? How is that even possible? I thought there were only 4 ventricles/auricles/whatever into the heart? And that carotid blockage? 95%? Mother of shit.
I called my stepmom and left a message: We are lucky to have Chip still with us. Very lucky.
My uncle Chip rocks. He's intense, loves to drink and have a good time, the compleat WASP. I love drinking with him. He's my father's oldest brother and is named after my grandfather--Wharton Green III, so we call him Chip.
I'm so glad he's doing well. I love my uncle.

Date: 2006-03-11 04:19 pm (UTC)There are 2 ventricles and 2 atria, true, but what's bypassed in bypass surgery is an artery feeding the heart muscle itself, of which there are many more. It's like sending the blood on a detour around a traffic jam. And it's a pretty common surgery these days.
