My teeth hurt.

So Katie (work friend) and I are talking about the Radio City Christmas Show, which I want to see (assuming they've let the musicians back in--I absolutely will not give them a dime for taped music). I was saying how enjoyably cheesy it sounds, with that Jack Jones wannabe trilling "It'll fill YOUR heart with Christmas!" I love those ads. Katie said she'd seen it last year with some Spanish friends--they loved it. She said there's a strong religious theme in the show; I said yes, I understood there was a live manger scene with live animals. She said it was more than that--they say something about how "...He was born for ALL our sins, for my sins, for YOUR sins..." Hmm. I worked my way through this--yes, Christmas is a religious holiday at heart; however, there are also secular elements and interpretations of it. Furthermore, the ads for the RCXS only show the secular elements and make no mention of Jesus or scripture. I have no problem at all with people/shows/whatever emphasizing the religious elements of Xmas, but I don't think RCXS's target audience is expecting that--I mean, if you want church, you might as well just go to church and get the unalloyed real deal there. Finally I started giggling as I thought of all those half-naked showgirls kicking their legs on the same stage as the Baby Jesus--it's a tad incongruous, to say the least!

They do show a clip of the Nativity Scene in the TV ads I've seen. I haven't seen the show in years, but remember being more impressed by the LIVE CAMELS ONSTAGE than any overt Jesusness (and we all know how touchy I am.)
