Have you ever seen the movie Sleepers? The scene where Kevin Bacon buys it was shot at McHale's which was perfect because it's so old and has such character. It's this awesome sports-bar/theater-hangout in the Theater District that sells extremely cheap and yummy food and beer to starving actors and techies. I go there a decent amount, as does pretty much any actor in Midtown, and you'll see Broadway performers there a lot as well. It's THE place to go after your show comes down. I first discovered it when I was living up here part-time, looking after Mia (a little girl who was in Annie Get Your Gun) and the straight chorus boys would take me there to be beered and dined. Man, the place is so old--you can feel all the history worn into the floor. I love the Art Deco design of the exterior as well. I can't believe they're forcing it to close. That SUCKS.
