Mayor Nagin says parts of New Orleans will reopen soon.

The first section of the city could open as early as Monday, Nagin said, and the historic French Quarter of the city, the prime destination for tourists, could reopen Sept. 26.

If they have a Mardi Gras this year--and knowing New Orleans, they will--Doug, we are SO THERE.

I hope, I hope, I hope...

No idea if I'll be able to afford a trip (I'm also considering London sometime in winter, if anyone is interested in a few days across the pond), but if I can, I'll happily add a few pennies to N'Awlin's' coffers.

The great thing, New Orleans is not that expensive. Food and lodging are generally much cheaper than in other cities.

You know... a trip across the Mason Dixon line might be just what the doctor ordered, then! :-)

I do believe my godmother rented a condo down there. When I talk with her next, I'll ask her what was involved. Might be cheaper if we all get a place together rather than individual hotel rooms.

A trip to New Orleans with that fantastic (and oh-so-fattening) food, and yummy Hurricanes, and crawfish etouffe, and shrimp po-boys, and pralines, and bread pudding (bread crack, as Doug and I called it)....is just what *everyone* needs.

Oh, I definitely agree about doubling up whenever possible.
