I don't understand so much of this. We're the richest country in the world, and we can't do drops of food and water to these people? We can't airlift troops into the city to stabilize the looting and sniping? We did drops in Berlin after the war--WTF? This is not a third world country; this is America. Why the hell isn't FEMA doing more? This is unbelievable; I've literally felt this week as though I were dreaming. This can't be happening. It can't be happening.

I was talking to my mother last night--as hard as this is for me, it's worse for her. She went to college in New Orleans. She met my father there. She gave birth to my brother Bart there. She spent the first few years of her married life there. They lived on Tchapitoulas Street, and she said she had a hard time making cakes because they would come out crooked (New Orleans is on such squashy ground, some of the buildings are crooked). "So," she said brightly, "I made pies instead!" (My mother is famous for her pies--her chocolate cream pie is so good, my dad requested the recipe years after their not-cordial-divorce for his restaurant.)

I haven't talked to Bart yet. I can't imagine how he's feeling.

I see 500 buses going into Manhattan every day - maybe every hour. That's all they need to get the people at the Superdome the hell out of there.

Why didn't this happen Wednesday?

I don't understand any of this. Admittedly we're understaffed but this is a disaster--pull the troops, etc. from elsewhere and stabilize the situation, then send in the buses. I don't understand.

"If you...shoot at this helicopter, you'll blow it up you'll gain nothing."

He'd probably slingshot around the earth, go back in time, and prevent the administration from cutting funding for the levees. That's what he did in resopnse to the last environmental disaster he faced.

I am not Trekkie but I know this...

He would save a Humpback Whale while he was at it.

Captain Kirk how dare you authorize a mere two guards for a project of this importance!

i hadn't heard that about the poor woman at the superdome. how awful. i keep crying too... there was a woman on Anderson Cooper who was taking care of her granddaughter--she had just lost her sister a week earlier, and now this, and she didn't know where either of her sons were. The reporter and producer went back to the house with the granddaughter and brought back some belongings they salvaged. when the producer showed it to the lady she just started bawling. i've seen this clip three times, and every time something inside me breaks.
