Someone on "All That Chat" is saying Encores! may be doing Kismet this year. *Drool*...LOVE that show. One of my all-time favorite scores. When I did Me and My Girl, Amy Brackman and I used to sing "Rahadlakum" together all the time. "Let's discuss the nature of virtue...Virtue is its own reward....On days when my lord groweth restless/And bored with his sword and his gloom...'Tis sweet with the meat of the leechee nut/Combined with a kumquat and riiiind/The kind of confection to drive a man out of his Mesopotamian miiiiiind!"

I would LOVE to play Lalume, Wife of Wives. Marsinah has some great songs, but Lalume is much sexier.

Such wonderful poetry in that score. Sure, the music is great--you can't go wrong with Borodin. But the lyrics are incredible--"Strange spice from the South/honey through the comb, sifting/Imagine these on one eager mouth/And this is my beloved..."

Wow, hadn't even thought of that...but you're right. I definitely would love to do this show. Can't you just see me as Lalume, flirting with Haaj behind the Wazir's back. "Hold! I'd like to hear...a little more."

Damn, I need to get my Equity card! All right, that's it--as soon as they have auditions again for Jekyll and Hyde, I'm going to front-load my cover letter and resume and get the gig.

What did you play in Me and My Girl? I did it twice. I was Lady Battersby and Lady Something Else that Began with B. I was pissed that I did not get Jackie the first time because the girl who got it could not sing but the director wanted her bod. The second time, Jackie rocked the house so I was cool with my role. The director of the first show actually reviewed the second show and wrote that Jackie in our show (who was insanely amazing) was too old for the role. In reality, she was younger and looked younger than the girl that director cast.

I think I was Lady Battersby too--my character's first name was also Clara, I remember, and my husband's name was Frederick. Our Jacqui was pretty good so I was just aiming for understudy but I was very young-looking then, very small and thin, and much too girlish for Jacqui's boobalicious costumes. It's too bad, it would've been a fun role (I wasn't really interested in Sally, and not a good enough tapper at any rate). The show itself kind of bores me, but I had a great time with the cast of that show. Susan and I did it together (and she choreographed), and I think my friend Ryan swung for it.

I actually saw this play. My folks took me to a college production when I was young (actually, come to think of it, they used to take to a lot of plays - West Side Story, California Suite, Mame). I remember liking it, though I barely remember anything about it. It did add the word "kismet" to my vocabulary though.

It's not a bad show to bring a kid to, because the plot's fairly simple, the songs are great and there's a lot of spectacle. Mame's good too because there's another kid in it. I would love to play Gooch in Mame. I do her song for auditions sometimes.
