I met Tracy last night at Bryant Park and we hung out with a couple of her friends. We had a biggish bottle of Riesling and two small splits of Chardonnay and White Zinfandel, plus crackers and chicken and seafood salads. It was incredibly sticky last night--I felt drenched in humidity after only a few minutes. The movie was Alfred Hitchcock's Suspicion with Joan Fontaine and Cary Grant. Very good, very intriguing, although I wasn't crazy about the ending. JF did excellent work, and the direction was pretty strong as well. Some nice imagery there. I was laughing about the soundstages though--they look soooo fake, but I guess audiences had different expectations then.

I love seeing movies, plays, hearing symphonies, al fresco.

Alfred Hitchcock's Suspicion is not one of my favorites. Vertigo? Notorious? Rear Window? Now THOSE are some good film. ;)

Did you happen to meet a girl named Jennie who was friends with your friend Tracy?

My friend Jennie went to Bryant Park last night to watch that movie with someone named Tracy. Hmmmm.... :)

Yes! She works at the zoo with me! I just talked to her on my cell and asked her the same question, and she confirmed it. Small world, huh?

:)

My film buff friend told me that the original ending and the ending that they ended up with were quite different. Cary Grant was not thought believable as a true bad guy so hence the change.

They told us about the proposed ending as everyone was getting up after the credits (some guy over the loudspeakers). They said it was because his fan base wouldn't accept him as the victim/the studio didn't want to lose money on Cary Grant. That is, not so much as a slam on his acting skills. He's pretty good in this movie. But I wish they'd let him just be the villain. You're left with this "what was all the fuss about?" feeling at the end.
