I love my fewocious back-attacking kitty
Jul. 1st, 2005 09:51 amSometime last night I was sitting up, slumped over in my sleep. I have very weird sleep habits sometimes--I sit up, I grind my teeth, I talk and for the piece de resistance, I also sleepwalk. I've tried to figure out a consistent pattern with the sleepwalking but it's difficult because I usually don't wake up, and throughout my life, I've almost never shared a room (since I'm the only girl). I know when I was at the Lost Colony I did it a lot--I woke up one time on the porch of my apartment with my car keys in hand. And when I was 12 my dad caught me standing at the window calling out to someone named Mark--he asked me the next morning who Mark was and I didn't know what he was talking about. My older brother sleepwalks as well, so maybe there's a genetic component.
Anyway, last night I was sitting up, and Tatia heartily disapproves of this. I think it weirds her out. I woke up because she attacked my back--she kind of grabbed my back with her little kitten claws (not deep) and nipped very lightly with her teeth, just enough to jerk me awake (she does this to get my attention sometimes as well). I realized what I'd been doing, fell back onto the pillows, and sleepily grabbed her horrible lumpenness (I did note, even in my stupor, that she is getting rather embonpoint) towards me for kisses and pets, because she was a good kitty to wake Mommy up like that. She was all happy and purry and promptly flopped down against my head.
TC, the tabby I had for 19 years, used to back-attack as well, but it was when we were play-fighting. He'd get all worked up and start breathing hard, and when I turned my back--WHAM! Clearly kitties are not signatories to the medieval code of chivalry, wherein it was the height of dishonor to attack a knight's back on the tournament field. Because they are all HORRIBLE.
God, I love my cat.

Date: 2005-07-01 07:15 pm (UTC)I don't walk in my sleep, but I talk, and answer the phone, and apparently sit up and look around dazed and wild eyed - which, since I inherited sleeping with my eyes half open from my dad, can be pretty freaky

Date: 2005-07-01 10:00 pm (UTC)I sleeptalk and sleep-sing, grind my teeth and have fallen off my bed. Letham is always very entertained. I only ever sleepwalked (?) once when I was little and it was the night before the show opened that I had the lead in. Apparently, I walked down the hallway to my parents room and turned all the lights on on the way and woke them up and told them if we didn't get up we'd miss the show. My dad apparently said something about it not being time for the show and I turned around and went back to my bed. He had to follow me and turn out all the lights. Weird.
