The weekend

ceebeegeeSaturday Doug and I saw The Amityville Horror which was terrifying. I didn't think I'd be that scared--I've gotten over my fear of the original, which I saw when I was 11--but I was clutching Doug most of the movie, and I had to close my eyes a lot. Last night I had a hard time falling sleep, and I finally had to grab my (Anglican) rosary to feel safe. I should've known--I cannot get some pictures out of my head. And I have to say the movie crossed some unnecessary boundaries--I do not need to see little girls cowering in terror before their brothers right before getting murdered, or doggies getting butchered. Those images do not belong in a mass-market horror picture. It's not a documentary about the DeFeos (the little girl was a made up character anyway--there was no 9-year old girl named Jodie in the DeFeo family)--it's a horror movie.
After that we had sushi--I ordered a glass of Chardonnay to test out my newly acquired wine skills, but this Chardonnay wasn't the greatest. But I like that sushi restaurant--the music is a little loud but I love the environs. All mood lighting and colors and anorexic waiters. Then we had a nightcap (or several) at the Shannon on 1st Street.
Yesterday we strolled through the Hoboken Music and Arts Festival. Lots of really nice crafts booths there, much nicer than you usually see in the fairs in the city. I was very tempted by several adorable bags there, and ended up buying a black one decorated with peacock feathers. SO cute. There was another booth with some lovely clutches--they have a shop in Hoboken where I may visit. I really liked their stuff. I also bought some lovely-smelling soaps, in scents like lavender, lemongrass and spring rain. The woman who ran that booth talked about their new shampoo/conditioner-in-one, made with jojoba and olive oil. She was very up about it and I might've tried it but they didn't have a sample size. I did think if they really wanted to market it, she should brush her hair a bit more--she wasn't the best model for it.
Also bought a boucle knit scarf with watery greens and blues.
We ran into Jason, Paula and Chris on the street, and the five of us wandered around together. Of course we had to stop for my fair-food fix, deep-fried Oreos. MMmmm.... They also had some surprisingly good crabcakes.
When I got home I rearranged my living room. It feels so comfortable to watch TV now--the futon is where the bookcase used to be, the bookcase is between the two windows (although not right up against the wall--it sticks out slight and my tall steel lamp is behind it). And the TV and entertainment set is against the far wall, where the futon was. It feels like there's so much room now, and it's all at these lovely right angles that are so comforting. I can slump in my futon and stare dully at the TV now, whereas before I kind of had to perch on the futon. Anything that facilitates my couch potato tendencies is a good thing.

Date: 2005-05-02 03:30 pm (UTC)Last weekend, Keith, Lisa and I went to see it and I have to tell you, I didn't get scared. Keith and Lisa (which I could believe) jumped a few times, but I just keep looking at them. Ryan Reynolds being shirtless or wet through most of the movie helped allay any fears I may have had. I do agree with you on the gore factor. It was just a little too much. Though the last shot was great, but unneccesary.
