The MTA board is supposed to vote today (?) on the three different bids for the land where Bloomberg wants to West Side Stadium built. Of the three bids, one of course is from the Jets. NY1 reported this morning that something like 7 of the board members are planning to vote for the Jets bid--I think they need only 1 or 2 more votes. If that happens, and this stadium is built according to the deal that Bloomberg laid out, that's one more thing that'll make it easy for me to leave this city eventually. I actually have no strong feelings one way or the other about the stadium itself--what I reject is the use of tax dollars to finance it, when the Jets owner are swimming in money, and will make a great deal more after this stadium is built. I really despise Bloomberg's tactics on this deal and the way he just bent over and let the Jets take everything, and then tried to strong-arm the rest of us to go along. Fucking sweetheart deals--why are these rich, rich men screwing the taxpayers like this? Why are we paying $600,000,000 to the Jets (and please don't say jobs--the jobs they offer are hot dog vendors and the like--no long term, stable, middle-class jobs at all). How come everyone screams about welfare reform and no one talks about corporate welfare? And don't get me started in the fucking MTA--I'm not surprised they could vote for the Jets bid on the land (even though they offered less money)--these are the same people that voted for a 33% fare hike. Fucking 33%. OUTRAGEOUS. I'm still furious about that. I LOATHE the MTA, and would love it if everyone of those assholes somehow lost their jobs.
If this deal goes through, Bloomberg has lost my vote. Yes, I will vote on that one issue--I actually like Bloomberg other than this and think he's been a decent mayor. But I despise tactics like this--this isn't Tammany Hall, and you can't just bully your way on a deal like this and get all irritated when people (VOTERS) call you on it. You owe US, Bloomberg and you're already on shaky ground. This deal may very well lose him his office.
