I first heard that term in high school, from my English teacher of all people. I was all "Hmm, must remember that. Good thing to throw into casual conversation."
My high school was very cool...most of my classes were tiny and we had all sorts of nicknames for the teachers. I called a few of them by their first names. It was awesome.
