Aug. 4th, 2004 12:15 pmMy mother and aunt are visiting next week for a couple of days. I love my aunt Jenny--she's one of my godmothers and she RAWKS. Her personality is similar to mine (she's very grounded, whereas my mother is more flighty--interesting sister dynamics since my mother is ten years older) and she's so much fun to hang out with. My mother and I were both her bridesmaids when she got married in '79 (man, those pictures are a blast from the past--I had the classic Farrah hair flip, except that my hair didn't hold much curl or body) and my mom was supposed to drive her in Jenny's old VW to the wedding but the car stalled and my mom freaked. So Jenny sighed and switched places with my mom, and drove herself to the wedding, her veil streaming out the window. She rocks. She's totally a can-do type.
She has blonde hair and blue eyes too, and my grandmother used to call her "Guinevere" sometimes--Guinevere of course means fair-haired. But other than coloring I don't really resemble her--she is much more voluptuous than I; I tend to take after my father's side (the skinny athletic type) physically.
She married my (Jewish) uncle Jon, and then converted to Judaism. In fact they were married in a temple, under a chhhhhhhuppuh (I love articulating that H). They have two kids, my cousins Ben and Jessica, who both had b'nai mitzvoh (is that right?). So, interestingly, one of my godmothers is Jewish. Jon is awesome too (and Seth, you look SO MUCH LIKE HIM--it's eerie), as are their kids. Ben is very low-key and laid-back, but sweet and friendly. Jessie is a little shy with me (she went through a hero-worship stage around me when she was a kid--I'm told she started imitating my "preppy" (according to my grandmother) accent) but lots of fun. I love my relatives.
