The X-Files

Doug and I were watching an episode of The X-Files the other night. What a completely awesome show that was. I'd forgotten how great it was--I lost track of it when I went on the ship, and missed out on a lot of season 6. Then when I got back, it seemed Chris Carter was getting hoist by his own petard, and his attempts to pull together all the threads of the mytharc just weren't playing. But the first six seasons were so great. The episode where they find Scully after her abduction, "One Breath," was great--I need to watch that again. I still remember the imagery where she's in the rowboat in the lake and Muler and her family are watching her from the shore, with the gloominess of the day, her red hair, the green trees. Gillian Anderson getting pregnant was a good thing for that show, becausr it forced them to write in the adbuction arc.

Seasons 5 & 6 were great too--I loved all the silly episodes, like "Bad Blood" (fucking hilarious, with the obsessive-compulsive vampire) and "Dreamland." And "Small Potatoes" (season 4)--great, great episode. "Paper Hearts"--man, I need to start watching these eps again. I have most of them on tape.
