More from the New York Times LTTE page:

Now that whatever damage that may have been done to John Kerry's campaign by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has been done, President Bush is playing the good guy by calling for an end to all the attack ads. How transparent.

and

We should examine why politics has become so vicious, and why heroes like John McCain and Max Cleland, along with Mr. Kerry, have been singled out.

and

An Aug. 24 letter writer wonders why John Kerry did not oppose Fahrenheit 9/11 but contests the ads denigrating his service in Vietnam.

A simple reason comes to mind: No factual error has been found in
Fahrenheit 9/11; most of the material there, while deeply embarrassing to President Bush, is well established.

By contrast, the charges against Mr. Kerry have been brought by people who have been contradicted by the testimony of those who witnessed the events.
