I heard on New York 1 this morning that this month is on its way to being among the ten rainiest Julys ever. Interesting. It doesn't feel as though it's rained that much--rain usually really affects my mood (I was miserable June 2003). It seems as thought it's been a nice July. I haven't even minded the rain this week that much, although I was not happy last Friday.

Not only is it one of the rainiest, it's been one of the coolest. Have you noticed we haven't hit 90 yet?

I can do without the rain, because it makes for lousy sailing, but I'll take a solid month of 80s with no complaints.

Hmm, no 90-degree days, you're right. I actually don't mind excessive heat, though.

Since the weather's been so good, I think *someone* should have a ...cookout soon.

Well, *someone* has to get his apartment all tidied up for 4-legged company asap, so once that's accomplished I can start having 2-legged company over as well. Of course, I also have to buy a grill first...

Doodness!

Objectively speaking, I love the rain. I love the sound that it makes as it falls, I love looking at the water coming down from the sky, and I absolutely adore the feeling of it as it caresses my skin on a warm day or night.

Realistically, on the other hand, I can't stand it because I have problems breathing when it rains. My sinuses don't cooperate, and I tend to have more headaches as a result.

Give me 90+ hot, sunny or cloudy weather anytime. Just take the humidity away.

Let's not forget that freak rain we had on 5 July. It only lasted a few minutes, but the equivalent of Lake Erie was dropped from the sky. On me, while I stood outside an apartment in Brooklyn that had a broken doorbell. That was the event that caused me to get a cell phone.

*shudder*

Anyway, so that probably adds a lot into the raininess. Plus there's been a lot of light drizzle, and it's generally been a grey summer. Which I like, of course. Except when a lake is dropped on me.

Speaking as a former naval weather forecaster I can tell you that the recent precititous deluge does not signify a meaningful alteration of the regional climatological characteristics. Rather, a period of rain concentrated in such a relatively short time period references a minor shift of upper wind currents in correlation with unusally dense pockets of moist air derived from coastal sea breeze intensity. Such deviations from normal or average precipitation amounts are considered climatological salients and are frequented upon coastal regions in cyclical patterns.

Otherwise it's a crappy day.
