My scene last night went better--I felt pretty good about it. Tom and I took the bull by the horns and just openly changed our blocking--Julie had stuck me in this down right spot ("You're Helen! Everyone wants to see Helen!") and since I couldn't see Tom, I was "speechifying." It was actually pretty crappy blocking--she wanted me to "work" for Tom/Menalaus, so he couldn't come to me right away, but since I was down right, I couldn't even look at him or I'd upstage myself. Tom was saying I had to remember to relate my speech to him, and I said if I can't see you, that's very hard to do. I can't personalize it unless I can see you, to appeal to you. So he started walking around me more, and walking up to me. It worked MUCH better. Now I feel (more) confident with that scene. Even Nora was better--she got a lot more "fishwifey" in the scene and gave it some dynamics.

So for the first time I was feeling something other than dislike for Nora, and she had to blow it during notes. Background: right after Helen and Menelaus exit, two of the Chorus women are supposed to enter. They cannot enter until we exit, because Julie gave them a note yesterday they had to wait until we're off the stage. Two days ago Tom changed the blocking of the exit and dragged me off down right instead of up right, so it was harder for them to see. Yesterday we did the same exit, came backstage into the dressing room, and saw the two Chorus girls sitting at their stations. They saw us and said "oh shit!" and ran on. Julie gave them a note saying pick up your entrance cues, and Nora pipes up "That's because Helen and Menelaus changed the entrance. " I immediately came back with "We did it the same way as yesterday." She tried to say something again (to blame us) and I repeated, firmly, "We did it the same way yesterday." First of all, Fat Nora, how does this even involve you? Mind your business. Work on being a better actress, and then you can concern yourself with other people's business. Second, they should be listening to what's happening on stage and know when they're supposed to enter, and also remember that we changed the exit two days ago. Thirdly, since you were on stage, you have no idea of what happened backstage--the girls had completely forgotten their entrance, and it had nothing to do with being confused by what was happening on stage. They just forgot. It was their fault. No biggie, it happens, but it was their fault completely. How about just fucking the fuck up instead of immediately blaming us when you have no idea of what happened?

And I'm sorry to report we have another would-diva--Suzanne. Suzanne is now the Equity Monitor and seems to think she's some sort of stage manager as well. I already talked about the "let's all give Tracy notes" situation, and she irritated the crap out of me last night again. The two Chorus girls and I were chatting about a movie during the pre-show music and Suzanne was waiting for her entrance (the show was about to start) and Jennie asked me a question and I answered in low tones "Ethan Hawke" and Suzanne went "Hush!" in these incredibly obnoxious tones and jerked her hand toward me in this hushing gesture. I turned to Jennie and very loudly whispered "Ethan Hawke"--the loudest imaginable whisper. Do. Not. Talk to Me That Way. Do not. You are not my supervisor, you are not my superior, and you certainly aren't more talented. You will be polite, or you will regret it. Tom has booked studio time with Suzanne to work on their Poseidon/Athena scene, and says she's been really difficult--hasn't paid her half, has shown up late several times, and has taken non-important phone calls during the time. Ugh.

Well, at least Tracy, Tom and the two Chorus girls are good to work with. And I don't deal with the others that much.
