...went very well. I got up around 10:30 and ran around getting supplies--hamburger, hotdogs, meatless alternatives and stuff with which to make ice cream. Mike called around 2:00 to say he was laid up because of his sunburn and was huddled in bed. Heidi and Duncan arrived (separately) around 3:00, then Seth and Rachel around 4:30. Then Sue, then Doug. Duncan, Heidi and Seth and Rachel had all brought potato salad--we were awash in starches! Seth and Rachel also brought a yummy fruit plate with a cream cheese dip. Mmmm. Heidi brought her big George Foreman grill--I have a mini one that can cook two patties at a time but Heidi's can handle up to four. (Insert a "size matters" joke here.) I attached it to an extension cord and then stuck it out on the fire escape. When I first started grilling stuff, I put two regular meat patties, and two meatless burgers out there. When they were presumed to be done I lifted the cover--the two meatless paties stuck to the top so I didn't see them at first, and I panicked, imagining they'd fallen between the slats of the fire escape and had hit someone below. "Auugh! Now the terrorists are attacking us with veggie burgers! Bastards!"

I can't remember who brought the Tostitos but I have a full (unopened) bag left, if you'd like it back.

I started making the ice cream around 7:00. It took rather longer than usual (I think I should've bought a little more ice), and I think I probably could've let it churn for awhile longer anyway. But it was still yummy--we added broken up Butterfingers and Kahlua to it.

Doug brought over his laptop so I could see William Shatner polluting one of my favorite songs, "Rocket Man." (Thank you, Doug! *mwah*). Apparently in 1978 Shatner was asked to..."interpret"...the song "Rocket Man" for the World Science Fiction Convention, floppy bowtie, toupee from Hell, and all. It's fucking hilarious. Words cannot do it justice. Doug also had on his laptop some MST3K stuff, including "Mr. B Natural," which I haven't seen since I first saw it in 1995. "We're whiiiite/We're whiiiite/We're really, really whiiite..."
