Jun. 25th, 2004 11:01 amDamn, LJ has been really problematic the last day or so.
I'm at my normal Friday assignment today and Judy is annoying me again. (Disclaimer: I really do enjoy talking to her, she just has a knack for saying the wrong thing--or rather the thing that irritates me.) Pretty much the first words out of her mouth when she sees me: "So...getting offered lots of good parts?" All hopeful and eager. I just answered "yes" very noncommittally. I hope to discourage her from asking me about my career all the time.
Then a little while later I get up for another cup of coffee and ask if she wants any. She says yes, black please, and then says that I NEED another cup, that I look tired. She trills "Wake up, Clara!"
What's especially annoying about this, beside the personal nature of commenting on people's appearance other than as a compliment--that's just bad manners although everyone seems to feel free to do it--is that I look "tired" because I'm not wearing much makeup. When I do my eyes and put a little color on my lips, suddenly I'm much more "awake" looking. Am I supposed to wear makeup so I don't get shit about how I look? Fuck that. I wear it because I want to, not to satisfy unspoken expectations about how a woman should look in public.
