I saw Mean Girls last night. It's not bad, although it's not as good as Heathers and not as good as its reviews have suggested. It reads like a cross between Can't Buy Me Love and Heathers. Lindsay Lohen is very good, and has a real girl-next-door beauty. Absolutely gorgeous eyes. The three Plastics varied--I liked Lacey Chabert but the Queen (appropriately named Regina) didn't quite do it for me. I think I was distracted by all the moles on her face. I have the same problem with Scarlett Johanssen. They guy who was "too gay to function" just wasn't that funny or really even that gay. The rapping Indian mathlete was pretty hilarious, though, as was the Vietnamese girl responding "Nigga, please!" to her trash-talking rival (in Vietnamese, with a subtitle).
Some of the dialogue is quite funny. I loved this one moment, highlighting Cady's (LL) transformation from sweet new girl to Plastic, when she invites her crush in calculus to her party: "It's just a small party with a few cool people, and you'd better be one of them, beyotch." You have to see the rest of her performance really to appreciate it but her facility with teenspeak at that point is hilarious.
On the whole, the movie felt more like an allegory than a fully told tale.
