We dress our kitties that way because we LOVE them. And THEY love it too. Even if they don't show it. Really. Deep down, they love getting dressed up as pumpkins and witches. They DO.
All the elf stuff I'm finding is so elaborate and romantic. It occurred to me what I'm envisioning is Puck from Midsummer--pared down, gymnastic, does lots of somersaults and plays tricks. Like the brownie in The Adventures of a Brownie, if you ever read that as a child. I always thought he was so cool and playful. That's a different kind of elf (well, officially Puck is a fairy) than Legolis or Galadriel.
