It's not so much the ending of a life that hunters derive pleasure from. It's being outdoors in the crisp fall air, and it's honing the skills required to hunt successfully. Or at least that's what I enjoyed, back when.
As for the disposition of the unfortunate beast: I'm the type that insists on every usable part of the animal being used. I don't hunt for trophies. And I don't hunt anything I wouldn't eat.
