It's not like Susan McDougal got pardoned.

Or Henry Cisneros.

Or Roger Clinton.

Or Marc Rich.

Oh, wait... Maybe it has happened before after all.

But at least they didn't get their sentences commuted. Because that would have been a scandal.

I didn't say anything about previous pardons/commutations. I'm not talking about the Presidency in general; I'm talking about the current one. It's not always about politics, and I'm not playing a game of my side-is-better-than-yours. I'm talking about my current President, for whom I have very little respect.

(As it happens, I agree that Clinton's pardoning those people--most of them anyway--was not cool. But then, again, my entry wasn't about the Presidency in general; it was about the current one. It's about a news item, not an encyclopedia entry.)

In conclusion--the current President has thrown up his lame duck hands in the air and decided his legacy's ruined anyway, might as well take advantage of executive privilege while he still has it.
