James Doohan has died.

I met him once, in the first flush of my Trekdom, in 10th grade (at a convention). I didn't know he was part of the D-Day invasion.

Marti and Paul met him a couple of years ago when they were on their way back to their apartment one night. He asked directions to the subway, and they were so excited they could barely speak, although they decided not to accost him for an autograph.

Yes, he was in a Canadian Artillery regiment. He also lost part of his finger, right index I think, at Normandy. It was shot off.
