ceebeegee: (Viola pity)
We had a brushup linethrough last night, and also introduced our new Sir Toby to the mix. We were all a little punchy and giggly--in the middle of Olivia's and my big scene in I,v, I gave her a long look and then said our little joke "Good madam--let me see your breasts." We went through the whole thing ("'Tis in grain sir!--'Twill endure wind and weather." "...if you will lead these graces to the grave and leave the world no copy...") Everyone was laughing; Jason was dying. I said "Man, that joke never gets old, does it?"

I had fun during the readthrough. Ben accidentally left his script in my bag last weekend and I've been perusing it. Some FASCINATING stuff in it; I'm very attached to the Folger editions, but I have to admit, the Oxford is more thorough. Some interesting stuff: in one production there was a freeze and a spotlight on Malvolio during his line "I'll be revenged upon the whole pack of you" which is pretty damn forboding. Another interesting point: Viola's line to Malvolio just prior to the ring speech, when she says "she took the ring of me, I'll none of it" is interpreted by the edition as evidence of V's tact and generosity--she's sparing Olivia embarrassment by upholding the story (M, for his part, is not so tactful). However I don't really agree with this take on V's response (as I said in rehearsal when Ben asked me why I say that, I responded "when you're living a lie, your first response is to agree when someone says 'this happened'--because you can't always remember the false details"). I think V's ring speech makes it clear it takes her awhile to grasp, much less accept, that Olivia is in love with her.

New Sir Toby is a skinny little drink of water--I asked him to put on some padding under his costume. He seems to be very conscientious (he's going to try to be off-book by next weekend) and he reads well. He thanked me afterward for casting him--I'm just glad things can settle down now and we can have some continuity. We're going to have another plug-in rehearsal tonight.

Tim emailed me the other day--he wants me to go to the Open again, the usual day, the Friday before Labor Day weekend. Cannot WAIT.

Does anyone have an extra pair of white slippers or sandals (size 6) I can wear this weekend? I just realized the shows I broke last night...I wear in the wedding scene. I do NOT want to be barefoot again! That just looks soooo Okie.
