ceebeegee: (Snow on the river)
Wow! I think this is the coldest it's been in New York since I first came here in the winter of '99. It was actually cold in my apartment last night and this morning, and that apartment is usually almost too well-heated. I got home very late from rehearsal last night--we did our cue-to-cue and so we got out at 10:55. Julie and I were down at the bus stop before 11:00 but the bus never came (fuck you very much, New Jersey Transit! [/Southern belle]) so we called the stage manager, Sean, and he gave us a ride to the PATH station where we waited even more time. All in all I didn't get home until 1:00 am, when I had some soup and shivered at my computer for a little bit until I went to bed. It was nice and toasty in my bed with all my blankets, and the cats piled on top of me.

This morning I didn't want to get out! Finally I did and ran to the shower and took extra-long in there, to warm up the bathroom with the steam. It still wasn't completely comfortable until I blew-dry my hair--aaaaahhhh! Nice toasty warm air! The cats finally started moving around after that as well. I left the blinds and curtains open so the afternoon sun would warm them.

Once I was got to work it was kind of cozy--I went down to the concourse hoping for some oatmeal but Cucina had already put it away so I got an omelet.

This kind of weather makes you appreciate what you have--I think that's why I want to eat, even though I am not at all hungry. There's a line in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that always stuck with me, even as a child, when the book starts going into the Bucket family's money problems, especially after Mr. Bucket loses his toothpaste-cap-screwing job, and how the weather is getting colder. The book says something like "when the weather gets colder we get hungry and start craving things like apple pies and oatmeal and plum puddings, and because most of us are a great deal luckier than we realize, we are usually able to have those things." I always remembered that.

Hope everyone's doing okay...
