So yesterday I went to my old management office, to do a few things--drop off the old keys and see if there was any leftover mail (specifically I needed the permit for the Central Park location for Midsummer--it's been approved but I wanted it in hand). I also wanted to remind them about the security deposit, although I figured they would drag their feet about it, or possibly even deny me, since I moved out on the 1st instead of the 30th. I got there around 4:15 and the guy said he didn't have any mail but I was welcome to take the keys and check the old mailbox myself. I walked over and retrieved a couple of items (no permit though--that came today) and brought the keys back right away. The manager gave me a check for the deposit, which surprised the hell out of me--no fuss, no arguments, and for the full amount. I mean, I've always gotten the deposit back (I always go back and SCRUB the old apartment, plus spackling, vacuuming, windex, etc.) but this company has been so remiss in their other obligations, I expected a struggle. I always had to call several times for major repairs, like the mailboxes hanging out of the wall and the hole in my ceiling last winter. But he just handed it over, and then when I turned to leave he said "Let us know if you ever need a recommendation, if you're renting or buying. We'll be happy to give you one, you've been a great tenant." Uh, thanks! I really didn't expect that, since I had to yell at them a few times about the afore-mentioned problems. Very nice of them.
