Iraqi elections
Jan. 30th, 2005 05:58 pmAs we all know, I'm no fan of George W. Bush; I think he's an ideological fool. However, I will agree it is great to hear about how the Iraqi elections seem to have gone off fairly successfully. It's great to see all those smiling Iraqis and hear their traditional, ululating cheers.
Oh, and some 60% of eligible voters came out, braving insurgents who threatened to fill the streets with their blood. Makes all of our elaborate rationalizations for not voting seem petty. We are so spoiled.
Addendum: I just watched this little old Iraqi lady, excitedly talking to a CNN reporter in Arabic, dismissing factional worries of the SUnnis and Shiites, saying "Today we are all Iraqis." Aw! I wanna hug her. Yay democracy!
