Nov. 30th, 2004 01:07 amTonight I watched a pirated tape of The Boy from Oz--my brother's boyfriend snuck a camcorder into the theater. At the end of the tape are scenes from an elementary school production of Once on This Island in which Jared's daughter played Andrea. It is fucking hilarious. The labored rhythms and ragged arms-up-then-out choreography, plus the closeups of the darting eyes in faces that clearly read "what do we do next?" are so damn funny and cute in that we've-all-been-there way. I especially love the ten year old boy solemnly telling Ti Moune "We've been promised since we were children" in his oversized suit. I must say, I'm pretty impressed that children (a sea of lily white children at that) are doing OoTI--it's quite difficult, even with the simplified rhythms and limited harmonies. They do a pretty good job.
