Friday Night Lights
Sep. 20th, 2004 10:20 amI want to see this movie--Friday Night Lights. It's based on a book that I read several years ago, about a high school football team and the Texas community that supports them. Only rarely do I enjoy watching sports--I'd rather play--and I'm really not into football, but the book makes you see how the community is able to come together for their beloved Panthers. One person that stuck out for me was a woman--I can't remember her occupation but she was pretty much the only Democrat in town (Texas is generally pretty Republican) but she was just as rabidly pro-Panther as the rest. That's the good part of athletics, the wholesome part. I loathe much of commercial sports nowadays--the Kobes, the Alan Iversons, the bullshit braggadocio and entitlement. This book makes you remember how sports can be, how they can unite a community and give hope. I'm such a sucker for movies like that--I loved Miracle and All the Right Moves.
