I'm so rustrated and upset I'm shaking. I had a message from U-Haul--they've changed all sorts of things about the moving van reservation. I'd originally had a reservation for a location on W. 23rd street--they up and changed it to one in the Bronx, way out there on DFordham Road. I'd also made it from 8am to 4 pm--the manager at the Bronx location said if I get it past 2 om, she'll charge me for a another day. When I called her on it, saying I have an email reseervation, she threatened not to rent it to me at all, saying she would call U-Haul and say she wound';t rent to me. She also can't guarantee the rquipment I reserved, which is the only reason I went with U-Haul=-they have furniture dollies and truck dollies and allo sorts of things to help out everyone. I'm about to cry I'm so pissed off. I HATE U-Haul. Thios move is gong so well, I'm all packed and every6thing and now this. I HATE THEM. Nothing excuses this. Don't make CONFIRMED reservations and then change them all at the last minute. The fucking Bronx. I HATE them.

I'll meet you as early as you want. Just say where & when.

[identity profile] ceebeegee.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
The location opens at 8 am; I'm leaving my apartment at 7 am. Luckily the D is express. We have a bit of a hike (8 blocks or so) from the subway stop to the van location.

Jesus. Never again. Maybe someday I'll get rich and buy out U-Haul and fire them all.

We have to move quickly on the actual moving part then, since our window is 2 hours smaller.

[identity profile] dry-2olives.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
No change then. I'll be at your apt at 7.

When you get through with this move, get in touch with their corporate HQ and raise seven different kinds of hell, especially about the manager who gave you a hard time.

[identity profile] carasol.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I can meet you at the U-Haul place if you like. (It would actually be really convenient from my place.)

Let me know what you need, and I'll be there!

[identity profile] ceebeegee.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
If you have any kind of equipment that would help with the move, like dollies or caddies or anything--bring that. I reserved a utility dolly and a hand truck but apparently "reserved" has a very loose meaning with U-Haul. There's no guarantee about any of this. None. I'm so angry I'v ebeen sobbing for the past 10 minutes. I hate them.

U-Haul 'em to court for breach of contract.

As we discussed on the phone, I'll be at your place by 8, if not sooner (I've been waking up outrageously early lately).

[identity profile] carasol.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, what a coincidence, I'll be there at 8 too! We should, like, hang out or move boxes or something. ;-)

[identity profile] planga.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
We can host a gate sale and use the money to fund a cruise and then buy a golf course and fix each other's hair and talk about boys and...

*cough*

Or whatever.

[identity profile] carasol.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Meh, I do that pretty much every Saturday.

[identity profile] planga.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
That's why you're always busy when I call!

[identity profile] ceebeegee.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You guys are all awesome. Thank you. I love you.

[identity profile] carasol.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
:^) You'd better. I don't get up at 6 for just anyone, you know!

Hugs, ma chere. Breathe deeply, and hang in there. This will all be over in less than 24 hours.

Looking ahead, I've been researching the restaurants in Harlem and Werst Harlem--some very cute places, like Dinosaur BBBQ and Sugar Hill Bistro. Now that I've cut the distance between us in half, we'll have to go!

[identity profile] alexlady.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 12:49 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] hollywd.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Good luck!!! Sorry we won't be around to help you tomorrow.

[identity profile] justducky2204.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
DEFINATELY call uhaul corp...they take stuff like this very seriously...had a simialr issue with them once and i ended up getting reimbursed for all the extra fees i incurred by having to go further, not returning the truck to the point of origin, the extra gas, and for returning it late.

[identity profile] ceebeegee.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you--I don't have time right now to write about what happened in detail but Saturday was HELL, pure-D fucking HELL. Just unbelievable. I'm thinking about contacting "New York 1 for you," the program where they lean on pople who are screwing customers.

[identity profile] kellygirlnyc.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
This same thing happened to Letham. He called to check on the reservation the morning we were supposed to pick up the big furniture item he'd bought, and they were like sorry, we have no trucks available. He had also reserved online, and had a confirmation number, etc...He was on hold with them for almost an hour and they couldn't give him anything more than his deposit back. I believe he took them to task, but I don't think anything came of it.

I wish I'd read your previous entries more closely because I would have grabbed the phone from your hand before you called U-Haul. I have only used Ryder and the private moving company I hired last year for that specific reason. From the first time I ever even considered U-Haul (for my cross-country move to NYC) they were shifty. This same thing of which you speak just happened to my dad in MN. Apparently this is how they do business. They must be stopped.

I am so very sorry that happened to you. I wish that I could have been there to help physically move you, but I'll be happy to take over yelling at them if you run out of steam. Ugh. Lemme buy you a martini next time we're out.

[identity profile] ceebeegee.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you--see above. Saturday was awful. Never again--and I WILL get my money back. And if I can, drive that woman out of business.

The best thing was the LINE of customers, at least 5-6 people when we finally left, who all had "confirmed reservations"--which meant nothing. I love seeing this big guy with massive muscles leaning menacingly into the bulletproof glass at this woman, saying "I have a reservation--I spoke to you yesterday..." and she just kept shaking her head and denying denying denying. I can understand why the glass is so thick--I would be afraid if I were she. I was so angry, I wanted to throw something at her.

[identity profile] kellygirlnyc.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
If anyone at all can do it, you can. :) You're great at stuff like that. You demand justice. Yay! Like I said, if you start to get hoarse, I can take over. :)

[identity profile] ceebeegee.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I *will* take you up on the martini offer, though...:)
