Vote!

I voted today. They don't expect a big turnout today--the election is for a few council members and some ballot initiatives. I was thinking of Stuart, and Iraq, and my usual frustration with those who don't exercise their right to vote. As fucked up as the situation is over there, we're trying to give them that right. People die all over the world for this right--Iraqis were gassed and tortured in unbelievable ways for this basic right to self-determination, and we take it so casually. We're such complacent, jaded, cynical children.

I, too, proudly voted today for State Senator, State Assembly, Freeholders, County Clerk, and a few ballot initiatives. I even researched the candidates (which ain't easy for local ones... they just don't have a big Internet presence) before I voted. Feels good to exercise your rights.

Yay for Jason!

Good for you. It does feel good. I even recognized the name of one of the Supreme Court Justices for whom we were voting (I'm assuming that's Federal or State Supreme Court)--he was the judge on the case for which I was a juror almost two years ago. I was all "Hey, Judge Stackhouse! Here I am being all civic again."
