Good riddance (in response to Tesse's post the other day)

Scott Eckern resigns.

Scott Eckern has announced his resignation as artistic director of California Musical Theatre following public turmoil in response to his financial support of California's Proposition 8.

What kind of fool issues that kind of insult to the people with whom he works everyday? Moron.

"Go home and sit in judgement on yourselves." (A nickel to anyone who can identify the movie that's from.)

I've never heard of this before, but I went and read the article, and this jumped out:

I understand that my choice of supporting Proposition 8 has been the cause of many hurt feelings maybe even betrayal. It was not my intent. I honestly had no idea that this would be the reaction.

Is this guy for real? I mean, how can anyone be this idiotic?

He's a Mormon--I guess he was constantly being told by his church that this was no big deal. But the guy worked with gay people every day--I mean, musical theater, for crying out loud! Yeah, really, how CAN you be that stupid? That tone-deaf? He didn't even just vote for it, he contributed a thousand dollars.

Some people are saying this is the equivalent to the '50s blacklist--I don't agree. Believing that marriage should be between a man and a woman is not the same as contributing to a specific political cause whose sols purpose is to take away a minority group's rights. Just as you can be a racist in your heart and not actually act on those beliefs (through hate crimes, etc.). None of the blacklisted in the '50s had actually contributed materially to the overthrow of the US givernment--beliefs are not the same as actions.

Is it from FOOTLOOSE?!?!
I KNOW I know this....damn....it's hovering out there just beyond my peripheral vision!
WHAT EEEZ EEET?!!?

Yes, it's from Footloose :) An awesome scene, when he interrupts the book-burning. I loved that line and John Lithgow's delivery of it.

I thought so! I couldn't imagine anyone but John Lithgow saying it so that's why I thought it was that movie....and then I second guessed myself. It's like my ACTING CAREER! lol...

I just read his resignation announcement.
He may as well have said how much he liked EVERY darkie on the plantation. The fact he mentions his lesbian sister makes his actions even MORE puzzling, not less!
Wait....think he's a closeted, self-hater? Why else would he give a grand to anti-gay people though he says he loves his GAY SISTER! (ripping-off Heathers) and ALSO be a THEATRE PROFESSIONAL?
He seems more and more ex-gay. I wonder how long before he gets caught at a rest stop with his ass up against a glory hole???
And I am actually serious about this. Nothing adds up...
