Bloomberg leaves the GOP.

Color me shocked.

(Of course he wasn't a very typical Republican anyway--I'm pretty sure a big reason he switched was to get a sure nomination for the mayoral race.)

He was a lifelong Democrat until the 2001 election. He switched parties to avoid the Democratic primary, so his Republican identity was always more a matter of convenience than conviction. This doesn't surprise me at all.
