City Ballet

I went to the ballet tonight with Tim--we saw three Stravinsky short pieces, Apollo, Orpheus and Agon. They were all lovely, but I liked the first two pieces the best. I like my ballet to be dramatic, not abstract.

I love the lines of ballet, especially the Balanchine stuff. I need to see a lot more--City Ballet has some pretty reasonably priced tickets. I used to go a lot more...I was checking out the NYCB upcoming schedules--I'd LOVE to see Stars and Stripes but it doesn't seem they're doing it anytime soon :( I love that choreography. However, they do seem to have a lot of Stravinsky coming up...:)

Afterward we walked over to the Santa Fe for somew yummy-ass margs and quesadillas. God, I love that place. All those warm orange tones...we used to go a lot in the winter when I need those colors.

Have you ever seen their Slaughter On 10th Avenue? It hasn't been in the repertory in years, but seeing that Balanchine staging to a full orchestra playing Rodgers jazz is my idea of perfect.

I thought Jerome Robbins choreographed So10A?

No, that was Balanchine. From On Your Toes, 1936. It was the first Broadway musical to credit someone as choreographer instead of dance director.
