Jerry Falwell is dead

I wonder if right now he's standing before our Lord, trying to explain his unbelievable hatefulness after 9/11, when he blamed the deaths of thousands of people on feminism and abortion and gay rights.

As far as I'm concerned, that's his legacy--that attitude, that bluster, that self-righteousness, that reflexive demonizing of humanistic and liberal beliefs.

Liberty University (which started as Liberty Baptist College and took a long time getting accredited) was near Sweet Briar--Sweet Briar is a few miles outside of Lynchburg. I had a longtime fantasy of renting a Mustang or Corvette convertible, busting through the Liberty gates and doing donuts on the campus, while blasting "Fight for Your Right to Party." I was something he wouldn't admit existed--a feminist, left-of-Jerry-Rubin, gay-and-abortion-rights-supporting Christian. We came in all flavors.

The sisterof my brother-in-lw's girlfriend attended Liberty. At orientation, everyone was told that they needed to look around and find someone to marry within their class. She married a fellow classmate so I guess she is a success story.

You should've flashed them too. Er, should flash them. In your fantasy, that is.

doing donuts? Please translate.

Behold, the donut

It works best on ice, snow or gravel. The idea is to stabilize the front wheels as much as possible, while whipping the back wheels around. While "You've gotta FIGHT/for your RIGHT/to PAAAAAAAR-TY!" is blaring forth from the speakers.

I guess that falls under the category of "heritage."

You've given a strictly technical definition, without really supplying the image of a donut. I would have said, spinning the car violently in circles around its hood, with much spraying of dust and smoke. Worth noting, it can only be done properly in a rear-wheel drive car (although I've seen a creative fool do it it reverse in a front-wheel drive car).

My mother often wondered why the tires on her old Ford didn't last...

I supplied a YouTube link which doesn't seem to be up there now...:-( It showed a car doing donuts.

Ah, I wouldn't have been able to see the YouTube part on my cell phone anyway.
