This is astonishing...

NH is about to okay same-sex marriage.

New Hampshire is conservative, guys. The specter of William Loeb looms over the state.

New Hampshire is not conservative, it's libertarian. Live free or die. We're not talking about South Carolina or Mississippi or Kansas here.

No, but it is rock-ribbed Republican, in the words of Stephen King. Or was (I believe they went against Bush in 2004 and that shocked me as well). For New England, especially compared to their western and southern neighbors, they're pretty conservative. Libertarian or no, I'm very surprised they took this step.

There's quite a broad spectrum of beliefs among Republicans.

Oh, I know. Maybe you should tell your politicians that ;-)

That was lovely. Just, lovely. I just fell out of my chair laughing at your retort.

It *would* be nice if the Republican leadership re-examined the "big tent" theory shot down in the '90s...

But Mike is right--New Hampshire Republicans are what the party used to be. They mind their own damn business and expect you to mind yours. Ayuh!

new hampshire is conservative, but libertarian conservative...they also approved and fought for their gay bishop...

they are ALL ABOUT "live free or die" and that means getting the government out of our proverbial bedrooms.

my grandparents lived there for pretty much as long as i have been alive-and as conservative as they and their friends were, they were also very much of the live and let live philosophy...which is pretty typical of the area.

*Our* gay bishop ;-) So glad!

My dad lives in New Hampshire and I lived with him in Milford for three years (he and my stepmom now live in Andover, near New London). Where did your grandparents live? Such a beautiful state.

they lived in amherst til the late 70's, then moved near center harbor, up on lake winnepesaukee.

i loved it up there.

Are you serious?? I KNOW Amherst!! It's the next town over from Milford!

No way...did your mother or father grow up in Amherst?

Andover, where my dad and stepmom live, is just south of the Lakes region--we have a pond on our property and a large lake across the way.
