History on the LIRR

My mother is in town staying with me, and Saturday we took the train to Merrick to visit my brother. On the way we approached Kew Gardens, and I thought "that's where Kitty Genovese was murdered." Then I remembered that the LIRR parking lot was right next to her building--and that building is so distinctive (it has the Tudor-style, sort of half-timbered design), I thought I might be able to see it from the train. And I did--I spotted the Tudor building, and the taller apartment building behind it--the one where the 38 witnesses heard and saw what was happening and did little or nothing. Unbelievable. I told Mom to look out the window--that was history.

That poor woman. Such a pretty little thing too, from her pictures. I hope her soul is at peace.
