Lovely! Is it ANnika or AnNIka? (Or the rarely used AnniKA?)

I'm assuming it's ANNika--I haven't actually heard my brother pronounce her name out loud yet. (I'm a little confused about the name--our Dutch ancestry is many generations back and as far as I know, my sister-in-law is only French. And I have no idea where Candace came from...)

I'm going down to visit my Mom soon and am hoping to see the new little one.

Maybe your sister-in-law likes Murphy Brown re-runs?

Please. No one in our family would be so gauchepopulist as to name their child for a sitcom character. We usually use family names. For example, I'm named after my great-grandmother (who, yes, was descended from the original Clara Barton.)

Well, how about that? All this time I thought you were named after lovable Aunt Clara on Bewitched.

[identity profile] ceebeegee.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. Clara and Clarissa have been family names in the Bartons going way back. In fact, go to this page and scroll about halfway down (http://www.millsaps.edu/records/catalog/2001-2002/financescholarshipsandfinancialaid.html)--you'll see my great-grandmother's name. [Although they misspelled Opa's (great-grandfather Wharton's) name just below it]. They were the parents of my father's father and great-grandfather Wharton was a well-known architect (http://www.cayuganet.org/forthill/bgreen/bgreen.html) who helped design JFK Airport and the IRT.

There was a Clara on The Andy Griffith Show (infrequently), but I don't suppose you'd own up to that, either.

Did he turn down the offer from Paul Whiteman?
