Saw the footage of the unnamed woman who died in the Superdome and was pushed against a wall and covered with a blanket. Saw just a little bit of her arm. Oh. Man. Like, ....kust...man. No one shoudl die like that. I bawled. Oh fuck. I just want to hold that woman, hold her hands and look in her eyes and ease her out of this world. Just say "it's okay...it's okay." No one should die like that. She looked so abandoned.
I cannot stop crying about this.

Human beings are the worst. In time of crisis, they can act worse than animals. And it's inexcusable. Why the hell aren't food companies jumping at the chance to help tens of thousands of people live?
Gerber should have been on this with all of those babies out there.
At this point, the idea of blaming people for staying is useless and not getting them anywhere. The question is, what do we do now? How do we keep this from turning into "Escape from New York"? It's already halfway there.
This is so bad.

You're so right re: Gerber and the food companies. WHERE THE HELL IS EVERYBODY??? My dad (who is not necessarily Mr. Compassionate towards the world) is giving money and he and my stepmother are both trying to go down to volunteer--him with the Red Cross, her as a psychologist. If they can help, so can these companies. This is so upsetting.
I just talked to my dad and he brought up a good point--he said he thinks some of the people who stayed, did so to take advantage of the situation (i.e., to loot, etc.).
I've been thinking of it as "Escape from New Orleans" as well.
