I'm at my mother's today--I flew down this morning. Her Siamese cat, a sweet, tiny, precious creature, has been very ill from some sort of congenital kidney problem. Mom thought she had at least a month (this was diagnosed just over a week ago) but it was clear yesterday the cat was dying and my mom called me. She was very, very still and would only rouse herself to moan terribly, down low in her voice. I got here around 12:30 and we held the cat until we could take her to the vet. When the doctor called for us and we went in to the little room, I started to break down, knowing this was it, that she wasn't going to leave that little room with its steel table. So sad. It breaks my heart to see animals in pain--you can't explain to them what's happening, all they know is that they're in pain and they look to you to make it better. The doctor talked to us and of course we knew what we had to do. She was in too much pain. So we were holding her and stroking her, telling her everyone loved her while the doctor gave her the injection. She was surrounded by love and warmth and soft hands at the end.

It hurts a lot. So much. This is so hard. Grief is the price we pay for the love they give us, these creatures placed in our trust by God. We've been crying off and on all afternoon.

She's in the Peaceable Kingdom now, sniffing around T.C., E.B., Pussface, Bourbon, Fang and my grandparents.

I just came back from my visit with Her Royal Highness. She's doing very well. She sat in my lap for a while and I petted her and reminded her that Mommy would be home before too long.

Thank you. She obviously thrived under your care and smothered me with suzzy, horrible love when I got in.

I told her about Bunny (the Siamese). Tatia lived with Bunny for almost a year, when I was on the ship, and they loved each other.

I'm so sorry to hear about Bunny. Our pets give us so much joy in the time they are with us and our payment is making the hard decisions on their behalf.

Mom's pretty upset. She got her only 6 years ago as a kitten--she was pretty young. Mom thought she'd have her for at least ten more years.

But she is talking about in the future, getting another cat which is good--when T.C. died, it was a long time before she talked about getting another cat.

Oh, Clara.
I'm so sorry for your Mom.
