pie

I was talking to a friend of mine who is Alabama born and raised and he was telling me that last night's Thanksgiving dinner was the first time he had ever had pumpkin pie because his new girlfriend made it. I couldn't believe it. He told me that his family never made it. For them it was always apple, pecan, and cherry pies for T-Day. I asked him if he liked it. He said it was okay, a little too sweet, but nothing special. Again, I was incredulous. Then I made a comment about how it isn't any sweeter than sweet potato pie. To which he replied that he had never eaten sweet potato pie.

I told him he needed to turn in his Southern Man card because I don't understand how someone could live 41 years on this earth in ONE geographic area that specifically is known for that type of pie and not have eaten it. He was ashamed and said he'd try to find a piece by Christmas (or possibly have his girlfriend make one for Christmas).
