Poor Traumatized Stray

Tatia was very NAUGHTY last night. At rehearsal, I'm told, they let Baby out and Meg, who's allergic to cats if they get too close, meowed at her. Tatia got upset and hissed back. Oh, doodness. My poor traumatized stray. She doesn't like other cats--I suppose I should've warned Duncan but I didn't realize anyone would be impersonating cats. Poor precious traumatized baby. Kisses for the stripey face. She was fine when I got home, as steppy as ever. (Steppy Cat Mode is when I'm trying to read something on the floor and she steps all over it all nonchalantly "Who, me? I'm just stepping over here...and here...and here...just trying to find a place to sit. Don't mind me.")

My ex and I had a cat with a similar personality, except she usually got steppy while I was trying to watch baseball. I had to conclude the cat wasn't a Yankees fan, because she refused to leave me alone when the game was on. Go figure -- the ex is a Red Sox fan.

Duncan says he read somewhere it's because they get annoyed at your intense concentration on something other than them. One time I was catsitting my mother's Siamese and when I was on the computer she would walk across the keyboard and lean against the monitor. It wasn't enough just to block the view; she had to lean aginst the screen, to make absolutely sure. They're just so naughty.

This is why I'm a dog person. If you ignore a dog, it'll just chew up your socks and pee on the floor.

I love singing to Tatia "Steppy caaaat...step-py cat...what are they feeding you?" I love Steppy Cat Mode too. Their ruse is just so transparent. "Oh, am I in your way?"
